No. 25 Tritons Claim Three Major GLVC Awards

ST. LOUIS – The No. 25 University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team brought home three of the four major Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason awards as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Mara Rieder was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, Jayden Kuper was named the Freshman of the Year and head coach Katie Vaughn was named the Chuck Mallender Coach of the Year.

In addition, Rieder and Morgan Ramthun received first team honors while Kuper landed on the second team and All-Freshman team. Ramthun was also named to the All-Defensive squad.

Rieder becomes the first player in program history to win the Player of the Year Award. She led the league in points per game (19.7) and blocks per game (2.0) in 25 games, while also finishing second in rebounds per game (9.9), free throw percentage (.867), and fifth in field goal percentage (.531). Rieder is 17th in Division II in points per game, 20th in rebounds per game and 21st in blocks per game.

In GLVC-only contests she held the top spot in points per game (19.0), blocks per game (1.9) and tied for first in rebounds per game (10.1) and sixth in field goal percentage (.529) in 20 games played. Rieder was named GLVC Player of the Week on four occasions this season (Dec. 1, Dec. 8, Dec. 15 and Jan. 5).

Kuper becomes the second Triton to be named Freshman of the Year and first since Mallory Ronshausen garnered the award in the 2021-22 season. Kuper led league freshman in overall points per game (13.4), field goals made (130) and was second in field goal percentage. She ranked first among freshmen in GLVC-only contests with 13.4 points per game, 99 field goals made and was second with a .396 field goal percentage.

Vaughn secures her second GLVC Coach of the Year accolade, also winning the award in 2021-22. She has guided the Tritons to a 22-4 overall record including 18-2 in the GLVC as well as the top seed in the GLVC Tournament after being voted to finish fourth in the league's preseason poll. She mentored Rieder to Player of the Year and All-First Team selection, Kuper to Freshman of the Year, All-GLVC Second Team and All-Freshman Team selections as well as Ramthun to an All-GLVC First Team and All-Defensive team selection.

Ramthun earns her second All-GLVC accolade of her career as she was named to the All-Freshman team in 2022-23. This season she is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Ramthun has recorded 11 double-doubles this season including four in a row. She has also been tasked with guarding the opposing team's top offensive player.

Aliya Tripp was one of 15 honorees in women's basketball that was nominated for the GLVC's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
