INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team split its doubleheader with the University of Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon at Bill Bright Field at Greyhound Park in Indianapolis. The Greyhounds took game one 3-0 and the Tritons held onto win the night cap 9-8.
UMSL is now 22-18, 16-7 GLVC while UIndy drops to 24-17, 15-8 GLVC.
Game 2 – UMSL 9 UIndy 8
The Hounds struck first in the second game with a run in the home half of the first. Gavin Duran brought home Austin Bode with a sacrifice fly to left.

Bennett Cagle's three-run home run to left scoring
Cade Grevengoed and
Garrett Strenger. For Cagle it was his third home run of the season. UMSL tacked on another run in the frame on an RBI single from
Mitch Bonczkowski scoring
LJ Randle.
The Tritons sacrifice flies from
Justin Terhaar and
Owen Faith in a two-run fourth to extend its lead to 6-1.
UIndy got to starting pitcher
Bryce Nicolay with four runs in the fifth. Joey Humphrey hit a three-run home run to right and later in the inning Brett Perry stole home when Duran was caught stealing at second.
UMSL got a two-run home run from Bonczkowski in the sixth to pad its lead. For Bonczkowski it was his 18th big fly of the season. The Tritons added an important insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single from
Justin Simard that scored Strenger to make it 9-5.
The Greyhounds wouldn't go quietly in the seventh getting a home run from Bode and a two-run double from Brayton Bowen to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Garrett Brunstetter sealed the victory retiring Garrett Rusch to fly out to right for the final out of the contest.
UMSL had 10 hits in the game and was led by Terhaar, Bonczkowski, Strenger and Simard with two apiece. Nicolay went 6.2 innings allowing eight runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts against two walks to improve to 4-5 on the season. Brunstetter threw five pitches to record his first save of the season.

UIndy took the early lead in the opening game of the twin bill with a bases loaded walk to Perry that brought home Rusch in the second inning. Rusch added a solo home run in the third inning to make it 2-0 and then Perry laid down a squeeze bunt in the sixth to bring home Humphrey with the third run.
Ayden Tran held the Triton bats in check yielding just four hits while striking out nine and walking one to move to 4-1 on the season.
Eli Cartwright took the loss giving up two runs on one hit with six walks but issued seven free passes in 3.2 innings pitched to fall to 6-3 on the season.
UMSL concludes its series with the Greyhounds on Sunday with a single game starting at 11 a.m. (CDT).
