ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis head men's basketball coach
Bob Sundvold has signed a contract extension keeping him on the Tritons' sidelines through the end of the 2028-29 season.
Sundvold owns a record of 232-150 (.607) in 13 seasons, which includes five seasons with 20 or more wins including a program best record of 27-6 during the 2019-20 campaign. He is the program's all-time wins leader.
Sundvold led UMSL to the Great Lakes Valley Conference title during the 2021-22 season and the program has made four NCAA Tournament appearances in the past seven seasons.
"Coach Sundvold is an outstanding basketball coach, and we have been fortunate to have him at UMSL," UMSL Executive Director of Athletics
Dr. Holly Sheilley said. "His ability to teach the game, develop talent, and consistently prepare his teams to compete at a high level has led to sustained success year after year.
"This extension reflects not only what he has accomplished, but also our confidence in the continued growth and success of the program under his leadership, Sheilley said."
The Tritons won the Midwest Region title in 2022-23 defeating McKendree in the championship game to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in 50 years and has also led UMSL to the Sweet Sixteen in 2021-22 and 2024-25.
He was named the GLVC's Coach of the Year in 2020 after that team clinched a share of the GLVC regular season title and advanced to the program's first GLVC Tournament championship.
With Sundvold at the helm of the program, 15 players have earned All-GLVC accolades, including Steve Webb who was the three-time GLVC Defensive Player of the Year while Isaiah Fuller and Troy Glover Jr. also were named GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, while five players have earned all-region accolades.
Sundvold's teams have also qualified for the GLVC Tournament in all but two seasons and have posted a winning record in 10 of 13 seasons.
"I'm honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue leading the basketball program at UMSL," Sundvold said. "We appreciate the trust and support from our administration, players, staff, and community. UMSL has a strong foundation, and I'm excited about the challenges and goals ahead as we continue to compete and represent our university with pride in the years to come."
Sundvold and the Tritons are coming off a 16-13 record including 10-10 in the GLVC in the 2025-26 season.
