PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – For the first time in program history the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf team advances to the medal/match play portion at the NCAA Championships. The Tritons finished eighth out of 18 teams to advance to Friday's quarterfinal contest at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
UMSL had a total team score of 925 (304-306-315) to hold off Grand Valley State and Southwestern Oklahoma State to advance by two shots.
The Tritons were led by
Wilma Zanderau who shot a 225 (77-71-77) to finish in a tie for 15th in the field of 102 golfers.
Alaina Ervin and
Hillary Currier had scores of 233 (77-77-79) and 234 (75-81-74) respectively while
Emmy Wahl had a final score of 236 (75-77-84) and
Mayan Covarrubias shot a 245 (82-82-81).
Wingate's Amely Bochaton won medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 203 (284-283-284) and won by 13 shots over St. Mary's (Texas) Taylor Wilczek. Wingate had the lowest total team score of 877 (299-289-289) to earn the number one seed for Friday's medal/match play.
The Tritons and Bulldogs are scheduled to tee off at 6:30 a.m. (CDT) on Friday morning in the quarterfinal round.
