ST. LOUIS, MO. – Drury's Brandon Lockhart hit a three-point shot with 28 seconds to play breaking a 70-70 tie as the Panthers posted a 74-70 victory over Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball action.
UMSL falls to 11-6 overall with the loss, including 4-5 in the GLVC, while Drury maintained sole possession of the West Division lead, improving to 13-4 overall and 7-2 in the league.
The Tritons used an 11-4 run midway through the second half taking a 54-49 lead with 7:38 to play. Senior
Joshua McCoy scored nine of his team-high 15 points during that stretch. But Drury would pull within 56-55 one minute later before scoring on three straight three-pointers for a 64-60 advantage with 3:55 remaining.
UMSL then outscored the Panthers, 9-4, taking its final lead of the game at 69-68 on an
Aareon Smith layup with 1:30 to play. After Drury's Cameron Adams converted on a bucket to change the lead once again at 70-69, McCoy went to the free throw line where he missed the first, but made the second for the 70-70 tie.
Smith finished with 11 points, while senior
Darian Cartharn added 10 for the Tritons in a game that saw 16 lead changes and 13 ties.
Drury took a 34-30 lead into the halftime intermission. The Panthers, which shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the first half, netted 18 of those points off 13 UMSL turnovers.
Drury's Alex Hall connected on a three-pointer to start the second half, giving the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 37-30, but the Tritons quickly bounced back with a 9-2 run, knotting the score at 39-39 with 15:27 to play.
UMSL shot 42.3 percent from the floor, while Drury connected at a 55.1 percent clip, including 61.9 percent in the second half. The Panthers held a 28-25 rebounding edge.

Isiah Nunn grabbed five rebounds, while Smith and senior
Charlie Woods had four each. Woods also recorded two blocks and two steals.
UMSL returns to the court on Thursday as it concludes a three-game homestand, hosting Quincy on Pack the Stands night. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
