QUINCY, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rode a career-night from sophomore
Kelly McGovern as the Tritons recorded a 71-57 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at West Division leader Quincy Thursday night.
McGovern scored a career-best 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, which included 4-of-4 shooting from three-point range. As a team, the Tritons netted a season-high seven three-pointers in 13 attempts.
With the win, UMSL improves to 15-9 overall, including 10-6 in the GLVC, and moves within one game of the lead of the West Division with two games to play. Maryville, who won at Illinois-Springfield tonight, moved into a tie for first place with Quincy at 11-5 in the league. Missouri S&T sits at 10-5 in the GLVC, but had its game against Rockhurst postponed tonight.
The win by the Tritons was also their fourth straight and snapped a 13-game losing streak to Quincy, which slipped to 13-11 overall with its third straight loss.

UMSL took a 27-19 lead into halftime after holding Quincy to just 28 percent shooting in the first stanza. The Hawks went the final 11 minutes with just one field goal after beginning the game 4-of-7 from the field to take an early 9-4 lead.
Quincy opened the second half with six quick points to pull within 27-25, but a three-pointer by Washington and a McGovern jumper in the paint pushed the lead back to seven at 32-25. Later after Lucy Cramsey cut the Hawks deficit to 36-31, the Tritons went on an 11-5 run, taking a 47-36 lead with 9:38 to play on a Zavoral three-pointer.
Quincy responded with another six unanswered, but UMSL followed suit with a 10-2 run and never looked back.
The Tritons shot an even 44 percent from the field, including 63.2 percent in the second half, and owned a 34-29 rebounding advantage, while Quincy shot 38.9 percent.
Smith and Washington each grabbed seven rebounds, while McGovern grabbed five and dished out three assists.
UMSL will host Illinois-Springfield on Saturday in its final regular season home game at 1 p.m.
