THIS WEEK IN UMSL MEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team wraps up a three-game road trip this week, traveling to Drury on Thursday and Missouri S&T on Saturday.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL has won two straight and is 13-6 overall, including 6-5 in the GLVC. The Tritons are coming of a 74-66 win at Illinois-Springfield last Saturday. Senior
Joshua McCoy averages a team-high 14.9 points per game, while junior
Darian Cartharn follows with 13.8 points per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Drury leads the GLVC West Division with a 9-2 league mark and is 15-4 overall. The Panthers have won seven straight and are 10-1 at home this season. Drury leads the GLVC in scoring offense (81.8 ppg) and is outscoring its opponents by an average of 20.3 points per game. Alex Hall averages 16.4 points per game and is shooting 41.2 percent (56-of-136) from three-point range.
Missouri S&T enters a Thursday home game against Maryville with a 6-12 record, which includes a 2-9 GLVC mark. Mudi Eruteya paces the Miners with 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES
Drury leads the all-time series, 14-7, which includes a 74-70 win on January 26 in the first meeting. The Panthers' Brandon Lockhart hit a three-point shot with 28 seconds to play to break a 70-70 tie en route to the win.
UMSL holds a 33-24 lead in the series with Missouri S&T and defeated the Miners, 76-62, in the first meeting on January 24. UMSL won last year in Rolla, 79-70.
LEADING THE NATION AT THE LINE
The Tritons entered the week leading the NCAA Division II in free throw shooting percentage, connecting at an 80.6 percent clip.
The Tritons' top shooter from the charity stripe is junior
Michael Weber (66-of-69) at 95.7 percent, which also ranks first among all DII players as well as all NCCA players. Weber has made 34 straight free throws dating back to the December 17 game at Lincoln. During that stretch, he went 11-of-11 at Kentucky Wesleyan (Jan. 5) and was 8-of-8 against Missouri S&T (Jan. 24).
MORE ON THE FREEBIE SUCCESS
UMSL leads the GLVC in total free throws made (379) and is second in attempts (470), averaging 24.7 attempts per game.
Junior
Michael Weber tied an UMSL single game free throw percentage record by netting all 11 attempts at the free throw line at Kentucky Wesleyan on Jan. 5.
SMITH ON THE RISE
There has been no sophomore slump for
Aareon Smith, who is averaging 7.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season. Smith has steadily seen his averages rise throughout the season and has started 12 of the last 13 games. He averaged just 4.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game prior to entering the starting five against Maryville on Dec. 5.
THE REAL MCCOY
Senior
Joshua McCoy is averaging 14.6 points per game during his two-year career at UMSL, having scored 670 career points, which ranks 38th on the Top 50 list. He has 93 three-pointers and is shooting 38.8 percent from beyond the arc, which currently ranks fifth on the career charts. Additionally, McCoy is shooting 84.6 percent (159-of-188) from the free throw line, which ranks second all-time.

Joshua McCoy ranks 11th in the GLVC in scoring (16.2 ppg).

Isiah Nunn ranks sixth in the GLVC in field goal percentage (.602).
- UMSL is 1-2 in overtime games this season with its win coming in a double overtime victory against Bellarmine on January 10. The Tritons also played in the GLVC's last double OT game, posting a 72-61 win at Maryville on February 17, 2011.
- The Tritons tied a school-record with 15 three-pointers in a 90-76 win over Central Oklahoma on November 24.
- UMSL scored 90 or more points in three of its first five games and has hit the 90-point mark in four games.
