Hot-Shooting Panthers Top Tritons in Men's Basketball, 90-75

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Drury shot 68.1 percent from the field, including 71.4 percent in the second half, en route to a 90-75 win over the visiting University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Tritons, who shot 46.4 percent, slip to 13-7 on the season, including 6-6 in the GLVC. The Panthers improve to 16-4 overall with their eighth straight win, while maintaining control of the GLVC West Division with a 10-2 league mark.
 
Drury raced out to an early 11-0 lead before senior Joshua McCoy put his team on the board at the 15:48 mark. That jumper also ignited seven straight for the Tritons. The Panthers extended the lead to 19-11 with 12:56 to play before a 16-9 UMSL run over the next 5:07 brought the Tritons within 28-27 on a Darian Cartharn three-pointer. Sophomore Neil Branham scored six points during that stretch.
 
Drury then closed out the half by outscoring the Tritons, 17-9, to take a 45-36 lead into the half, and opened the second half with an 11-5 run to extended the advantage to 56-41.
 
The Panthers took their largest lead of the game at 80-58 with 8:14 to play before UMSL trimmed it to 84-73 with 2:31 to play.
 
McCoy finished with 24 points, while juniors Michael Weber and Darian Cartharn followed with 14 and 10, respectively.
 
Drury, led by Alex Hall's game-high 30 points, held a 29-21 rebounding advantage. Senior Isiah Nunn grabbed five rebounds for the Tritons.
 
UMSL closes out a three-game road trip on Saturday at Missouri S&T. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
 
TRITON TIDBITS: Drury improves to 15-7 all-time against UMSL with the win… the Panthers won the first meeting, 74-70, in St. Louis on January 26… junior Michael Weber, who entered the game leading NCAA DII in free throw shooting (95.7%), missed his first two attempts of the game, which also ended a streak of 34 straight makes… senior Joshua McCoy went over the 20-point plateau for the sixth time this season.
