ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series against Drury on Saturday with a split. The Tritons lost a 7-5 decision in the opener before rallying back to record an 8-6 win in the nightcap.
UMSL moves to 11-11 on the season, including 8-6 in the GLVC, while Drury moves to 19-9 and 10-4 in the league. The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow with a doubleheader slated for 12 p.m.
GAME 1 –Drury 7, UMSL 5 (nine inning game)
The Panthers scored seven runs on nine hits to help garner the win, while UMSL recorded 11 hits.
Drury took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, while UMSL got on the board in the third inning on a
Charlie Mohr sacrifice fly, which scored junior
Justin Lois, who reached on a single.
Drury's Nick Thimesh then delivered a two-run homerun down the right field line that stayed just fair in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-1 before a three-run ninth inning, making it 7-1.
A two-out grand slam from Mohr in the ninth trimmed the final score to 7-5. Mohr finished with five RBIs, while senior
Lucas Matecki went 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base and a run scored. Senior

Paul Richmond added two hits each.
Sophomore
Zach Standefer took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out four and walked two.
GAME 2 –UMSL 8, Drury 6 (seven inning game)
UMSL exploded for six hits in the bottom of the first to take an early 7-0 lead that would hold for the win. Lois had a two-run homerun, while junior

Cody Garlington each had and RBI single to highlight the action in that frame.
However, the lead was trimmed to one run in the top of the second after a six-hit, six-run outing by Drury.
Matecki extended the UMSL advantage in the bottom of the sixth to 8-6 with an RBI single that scored freshman
Paul Moritz, who led off with a single.
Junior
Jonathan Rosario worked five and two-thirds of an inning to garner the win, improving to 3-0 on the season. He scattered just three hits, while striking out two.
UMSL recorded 10 hits and was led by Mohr and sophomore
Joe Wieczkowski who had two hits each.
