Volleyball Prevails in Five-Set Battle at Wisconsin-Parkside

SOMERS, WIS. – Junior Lindsay Meyer recorded a career-best 53 assists and added 20 digs to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team to a 3-2 win at Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons won by set scores of 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-13.
 
Junior Carly Ochs paced the offense with 13 kills, while juniors Hannah Miller and Jessica Ploss and sophomore Lexi Rogers each added 11. Rogers played in the final four sets and had just one error while attaining her career high.
 
UMSL improves to 6-3 overall, including 3-1 in the GLVC, while UW-Parkside slips to 5-4 and 2-2 in the league.
 
Miller and Ochs each recorded four kills in the first set victory, while Meyer tallied 13 assists on 14 UMSL kills as the Tritons hit. 382.
 
UMSL added another 14 kills in the second set, but committed eight errors. Rogers was inserted into the lineup in the second frame, registering four kills on five swings. The Tritons had trailed 24-16 before reeling off four unanswered points to pull within 24-20.
 
UW-Parkside jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third set, but UMSL rallied back to take a 20-19 lead on a Rogers kills. She later gave the Tritons set point with another kill before Ploss and senior Haley Brightwell teamed up for a block for the win.
 
The Tritons trailed by as many as eight in the fourth set, including 23-15 before scoring nine of the next 10 points, including six with Miller behind the service line, to tie it at 24-24. However, the Rangers scored the final two to force the decisive fifth set.
 
UW-Parkside raced out to a quick 6-2 start in the final frame before six unanswered points, including two kills from Ploss, gave the Tritons an 8-6 lead they would not relinquish.
 
The Tritons tallied 63 kills and hit .187, while the Rangers connected for 64 kills, hitting .186. The hosts owned a 13-9 advantage in blocks. Ploss accounted for six UMSL blocks, while senior Emily Bragaw recorded 24 digs. Miller tallied four service aces.
 
UMSL returns to action on Friday hosting Truman State at 7 p.m. The Tritons will play four of their next five matches at home.
