Women's Basketball Back on the Court Saturday, Hosting Maryville

SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL will look to get into the GLVC win column on Saturday when the Tritons host crosstown rival Maryville. The contest also marks the end to a three-game homestand and will be the final home game on the 2015 calendar.  

SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL opened league play at home last weekend, falling to No. 6 Drury, 74-65, and to Missouri S&T, 53-41. The Tritons shot a combined 35.2 percent from the field, despite senior Kelly Kunkel averaging 15.0 points, while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Kunkel averages 13.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while junior Robneisha Lee follows with 10.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.

BLOCK PARTY
UMSL ranks third in the GLVC in blocked shots per game, averaging 3.63. They are coming off a season-high six blocks against Missouri S&T.

Junior Simone Gillum has 10 blocked shots, while sophomore Jordan Fletcher has seven and also ranks ninth all-time in career blocked shots with 39.

AT THE FREE THROW LINE
Junior Sydney Bloch is 14-of-15 at the free throw line with her only miss coming on her first attempt of the year in the season opener against Georgetown College. She has made 14 straight since.

The Tritons are shooting 76.1 percent at the charity stripe, which is fourth in the GLVC.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Maryville is 5-2 overall, including 1-1 in the GLVC, having defeated Missouri S&T (74-64)on the road, and falling to Drury (80-47) at home. Alex Hillyer averages 15.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, while Ali Ringering follows with 11.6 points and 2.7 assists per game. The Saints lead the GLVC in free throw shooting percentage (80.4) and are offensive rebounds, averaging 15.57 per game.

SERIES HISTORY
UMSL is 9-8 all-time against Maryville. The Saints have won seven of the last night meetings, including both games a year ago by decisions of 57-48 and 67-62.

UMSL is idle until next Saturday when it travels to NAIA's Missouri Valley.
