Results MUSCLE SHOALS, ALA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team tied Lee University for first place at the North Alabama Spring Classic, held Monday and Tuesday at the RTJ Fighting Joe Golf Course, but lost to the Flames in a playoff that determined the team champion.
Both squads fired a nine-over par 873 with the Tritons turning in rounds of 294, 284 and 295, while Lee carded rounds of 297, 288 and 288. All five players from each team went to the 18
th hole where UMSL finished even, while Lee was one under to garner the trophy.
Host and No. 13 ranked North Alabama came in third, 18 strokes behind UMSL and Lee, with an 891 (299-298-294) in the eight-team field.
The Tritons had three finish in the top 10, including individual runner-up sophomore
Matt Barry, who fired a 214 (70-71-73), finishing one stroke behind medalist Taylor Davis of Lee (73-70-70 – 213).
Freshman
Markus Lindberg tied for fourth place with a 218 (75-69-74), while sophomore
Julien de Poyen was eighth with a 221 (74-73-74). Junior
Anthony Cope placed 13
th with a 224 (78-71-75), while junior
Colby Yates rounded out the scoring with a 226 (75-77-74), tying for 17
th place.
UMSL also had three golfers compete as individuals, including freshman
Gordon Hundley (76-73-81 – 230; 21
st), freshman
Stephan Sorg (73-85-76 – 234; T25th) and sophomore
Brian Wade (82-75-84 – 241; T32nd).
The Tritons return to the links April 3-4 at The Jewell Midwest Regional in Batavia, Ohio.
