Men’s Golf Opens NCAA DII Championships in 11th Place

CONOVER, N.C. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team opened the 2015 NCAA DII Championships by carding a 294 on Monday and sits in 11th place in the 20-team field.

Nova Southeastern finished five-under par with a score of 279 on the 71-par, 7,021-yard course to lead the field at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa, putting a four-stroke difference between themselves and second-place Lynn (283).

UMSL sits one stroke ahead of Barry and two strokes ahead of Florida Southern and fellow Great Lakes Valley competitor Indianapolis, which are tied for 12th.

All 20 teams and eight individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following the stroke play, an individual champion will be declared along with finishers 2-10. The top eight teams will then be placed into a bracket and seeded based on their 54-hole scores. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals and subsequently the finals to determine the 2015 national champion.

Sophomore Matt Barry led the Tritons with a one-under par 70, finishing with five birdies, including three straight on his back nine, and is tied for sixth place. Junior Anthony Cope shot a 73, while other UMSL scores include junior Colby Yates (75), sophomore Julien de Poyen (76) and freshman Markus Lindberg (79).

Central Missouri's Sam Migdal shot a 66 to pace all individuals and holds a two-stroke edge over Nova Southeastern's Oscar Lengden and Richard Mansell.
