CONOVER, N.C. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team fired its best round of the NCAA DII Championships on Wednesday, closing out play with a six-over par 290. The Tritons wrap up the 54-hole stroke play with an 878 (294-294-290), placing 12
th in the 20-team field.
UMSL had a pair of top-25 finishers individually, including sophomore
Matt Barry, who tied for 19
th place with a 215 (70-73-72) and junior
Colby Yates, who tied for 21
st place with a 217 (75-70-72).
Also for the Tritons, junior
Anthony Cope carded a 221 (73-75-73), while sophomore
Julien de Poyen (76-76-76) and freshman
Markus Lindberg (79-76-73), each turned in a 228.
Central Missouri's Sam Migdal claimed the individual national championship, finishing with an eight-under par 205 (66-71-68).
The team national champion will be determined on Friday in match play. The top eight teams at the conclusion of today's stroke play will be placed in a bracket and seeded based on their 54-hole scores with quarterfinals beginning tomorrow. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals tomorrow afternoon and subsequently to the finals on Friday to determine the 2015 national champion.
UMSL missed out on a spot in the top eight by six strokes, while Lynn will be the top seed in tomorrow's quarterfinals, finishing first in stroke play with a one-over par 853 (283-290-283).
TRITON TIDBITS: UMSL's 54-hole score of 878 ranks fourth on the single season charts… sophomore
Matt Barry's 215 is also fifth best on the single season charts for a 54-hole event, while junior
Colby Yates tied the eighth best 54-hole score with his 217… UMSL's 12
th place finish equals the second-best at the NCAA Championships in program history.
