SIZING UP THE TRITONSUMSL fell to 6-8 overall, including 0-5 in the GLVC, last weekend with a pair of losses in its first GLVC roadtrip of the year. The Tritons started out with a 12-0 lead at Saint Joseph's before falling victim to the Pumas, 96-85, last Thursday before a 79-68 setback at then No. 25 ranked Indianapolis. UMSL, which has lost three straight, has allowed 88.7 points on defense during that stretch as opponents are shooting 50.6 percent. However, the Tritons have shot 52.6 percent from the field.
Senior
Brandon Marquardt leads the offense with 15.5 points per game, shooting 51.9 percent from the field, including 51.5 percent from three-point range, where he has knocked down 52 long balls. Marquardt ranks fifth in all of NCAA DII in three-pointers per game (3.71) and three-point field goal percentage and is fourth in total three-pointers made. Marquardt also adds 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Junior
Joseph English adds 10.1 points per game and leads the team with 4.3 assists per game. English also ranks 17th nationally in assist-turnover ratio (3.16) and has five turnover-less games to his name.
As a team, the Tritons rank 27th nationally in assist-turnover ratio (1.41) and are 16th in assists per game (17.6) and three-point shooting percentage (40.9).
TRITON TIDBITS- Junior
Alex Majewski averages a team-best 4.5 rebounds per game. Of his 63 boards this season, 31 have come on the offensive end, an average of 2.2 per game. Â
- Redshirt sophomore
Andreas Kefalas has come off the bench to average 9.7 points per game in the last three outings and scored a season-high 15 points in the loss at Saint Joseph's. He is shooting 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the field during that stretch, including 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from three-point range.
- Junior
Hunter Reine is coming off a career-best 14 points at Indianapolis, bettering his previous mark of five.
- Senior
Brandon Marquardt has led the team in scoring in four of the last five outings and in six games this season, while four other players have been the top scorer.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSWisconsin-Parkside is 10-2 overall, including 3-1 in the GLVC, and is on a six-game winning streak. The Rangers are coming off wins over Missouri S&T (89-69) and Drury (84-67) last weekend at home. Reigning GLVC Player of the Week honoree Andy Mazurczak averages 18.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, while shooting 56.4 percent from the field, while Alexander Brown (13.9 ppg) and Kendale McCullum (13.2 ppg) also average double figures. UW-Parkside is fourth in the GLVC in scoring (83.8 ppg) and field goal shooting percentage (49.6).
Lewis enters a Thursday game at Maryville with a 10-4 record, including a 2-2 GLVC mark. Max Strus leads the conference with 22.1 points per game and adds 8.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Strus is also 84-of-102 (82.4 percent) at the free throw line this year.
SERIES HISTORIESUMSL is 14-18 all-time against Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers have won the last two meetings, including a 76-61 decision in Kenosha last year. UW-Parkside last visited the Mark Twain Building during the 2013-14 season in which the Tritons posted an 89-76 victory.
Lewis leads the all-time series with the Tritons, 19-7, although UMSL has won four of the last five meetings, including an 87-83 victory in Romeoville last year. The Flyers won the last meeting in St. Louis, an 82-80, decision during the 2013-14 season.
