SETTING THE SCENE
Following an eight-day layoff for final exams, the Tritons return to the court for one final game prior to the holiday break. UMSL travels to GLVC foe Truman State in a non-conference contest. The two teams will meet again in league play on Saturday, Jan. 21 when the Bulldogs travel to St. Louis in a conference contest.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL is 4-4 overall and is coming off a 62-58 home loss to Kentucky Wesleyan last Saturday.
The Tritons are 3-1 in road games, including 2-0 in non-conference road games, with its lone setback coming at No. 14 ranked Drury Dec. 3 in their conference opener.
UMSL is allowing just 58.1 points per game, which ranks fifth in the GLVC. UMSL has limited three opponents to fewer than 55 points this season.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Sophomore transfer
Laura Szorenyi averages a team-best 14.0 points per game, having reached double figures in all seven contests she has played in. She has earned three straight starts and is averaging 18.7 points during that stretch, including a season-best 23 at the No. 14 ranked Drury.
Junior
Jordan Fletcher follows with 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game, while shooting 67.2 percent from the field and 72.7 percent (24-of-33) from the free throw line. She leads the GLVC in both field goal percentage and blocked shots. Fletcher is coming off 23 points and a career-high four blocks against Kentucky Wesleyan. It was her second 20-point plus game of the year and the sixth of her career.
CAREER WORTHY
Fletcher's current career shooting percentage of 57.7 is a program best, while her 77 career blocked shots are third most.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Truman State is 5-5 overall and is coming off a 62-42 win at Quincy last Saturday. Cassidy Clark averages 14.2 points and 8.4 rebounds to pace the Bulldogs, which rank sixth in the league with 72.5 points per game.
SERIES RECORD
Truman State leads the all-time series, 20-16, and has won two straight, including a 59-51 decision in first round action of last year's GLVC Tournament. The two teams split during last year's regular season with UMSL winning, 61-60, in double overtime at home and Truman State posting a 78-73 overtime win in Kirksville.
