Women's Basketball Plays Next Two at Home, Hosting Quincy and Truman State

SETTING THE SCENE
After playing three road games in five days, it's back home for the women's basketball team this weekend. UMSL will host Quincy on Thursday before welcoming Truman State on Saturday. The Tritons will be playing just their sixth and seventh home games of the season.

SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL is 7-8 overall, having lost three straight on the road. The Tritons came up short in an upset bid at then No. 19 ranked Lewis last Thursday, falling 70-68, as the Flyers netted the game-winner with three seconds to play. UMSL then suffered a 73-70 setback at Wisconsin-Parkside last Saturday after holding a 13-point lead earlier in the contest. The Tritons were dealt a 62-50 loss at Maryville earlier this week on Monday.

The Tritons are 2-5 in the conference and sit in a tie for fifth place in the West Division standings.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Sophomore transfer Laura Szorenyi averages a team-best 14.4 points per game, which ranks 11th in the GLVC, and has reached double figures in all but one game. She also leads the squad with 18 three-pointers and is second with 31 assists (2.4 apg).

Junior Jordan Fletcher follows with 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting 63.0 percent from the field, which ranks second in the GLVC. She has led the team in scoring a team-high seven times and averaged 19.3 points on the recent road trip. Fletcher has gone to the free throw line a team-high 74 times and is connecting at a 69.8 percent clip.

Senior Robneisha Lee adds 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and a team-best 1.8 steals per game.

CAREER WORTHY
Fletcher's current career shooting percentage of 57.9 is a program best, while her 84 career blocked shots are third most.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Quincy is 4-13 overall, including 1-6 in the GLVC, and sits in last place in the West Division standings. The Hawks rank last in the league in scoring offense (56.7), but lead the league in free throw shooting percentage (77.8). Junior forward Anika Webster leads Quincy with 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Truman State enters a Thursday game at Maryville with an 8-8 overall record, including a 3-4 GLVC mark, one game ahead of the Tritons and the Saints. The Bulldogs average 72.1 points per game and are fifth in the league with 6.38 three-pointers per game. Senior center Cassidy Clark ranks eighth in the GLVC with 15.8 points per game and also adds 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

SERIES RECORDS
UMSL is 21-32 all-time against Quincy. The Hawks won at home last year, 81-77, while the Tritons won the last meeting in St. Louis, an 80-75 overtime decision during the 2014-15 season.

UMSL is 16-20 against Truman State, but defeated the Bulldogs, 80-70, on December 19 in Kirksville, Mo., in a non-conference game. Sophomore Laura Szorenyi scored 10 of her game and career-high 24 points in the fourth quarter of that game to help the Tritons outscore the Bulldogs, 26-15, in the final frame. UMSL rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to collect the win.

Truman won two of three meetings last year with two of those going to overtime. UMSL's win came at home in a 62-60 double overtime victory.

UP NEXT
UMSL will play its next four games on the road, beginning next Thursday and Saturday at Rockhurst and William Jewell, respectively.
