Women's Golf Advances to NCAA Championships After Third Place Finish at Super Regional

CANTON, OHIO – For the first time in program history, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf team is headed to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.

The Tritons punched their ticket with a third place finish at the NCAA East Super Regional, held Monday-Wednesday in Canton, Ohio at the Glenmoor Country Club. UMSL turned in a program second-best 54 hole score of 918 (312-298-308) and moves on along with Indianapolis (875) and Grand Valley State (912). The trio will be joined by nine teams from three other regions. The DII Championships will be held May 17-20 at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio, and will consist of 72 holes of play.

"You could see the excitement on the girls' faces when they came off the course," said head coach Troy Halterman. "There were a lot of happy tears, which shows this has been a goal of the program for a while. We've been building towards this for the last eight years and have come close a few times, but finally got over that hump.

"We started off a bit slow on the first day and didn't really get off to the start we wanted, but I think we were a little nervous. But we came back with a good attitude on the second day, played really well and got ourselves back in it. Then today our goal was to get into second place. Instead of focusing on someone chasing us, we wanted to focus on chasing someone else. We had a good battle with Grand Valley State, but had a few issues on the back nine. However, we played really well on the last three holes."

Sophomore Maxi Roth led the Tritons with a sixth place finish, turning in a school record 223 (77-74-72).
