Stupek Honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American

ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis senior shortstop Alex Stupek has been named to the 2017 Academic All-America Division II Softball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Stupek is the fifth softball student-athlete in program history to earn Academic All-America honors.
 
A four-time First Team All-GLVC honoree, Stupek started all 57 games and batted .361 in her final season, tallying 61 hits, including 14 doubles, 13 home runs and four triples. She boasted a .722 slugging percentage and recorded 41 RBIs and scored 47 runs. Stupek also tallied 15 multi-hit and 11 multi-RBI games.
 
Statistically, Stupek graduates as one of the best to wear the red and gold, owning career records in hits (268), runs scored (183), home runs (52), RBIs (175) and total bases (487).
 
She helped UMSL to a 42-15 record this season, the GLVC Tournament championship and the program's fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. In her four years with the program, UMSL produced a record of 192-40 (.828).
 
Stupek owns a 3.78 GPA and graduated earlier this month with a nursing degree.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.30 grade-point average (GPA) or higher, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution, and must have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic and academic credentials.
