SETTING THE SCENE
The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team hopes the return to the friendly confines of the Mark Twain Building will help get them back in the win column, but the Tritons will also be facing a stern test against crosstown foe Maryville, which enters the game on a five-game win streak. UMSL and the Saints will tip off on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Tritons' lone game of the week.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
- UMSL dipped to 8-9 overall, including 2-6 in the GLVC with two road losses last weekend. The Tritons battled No. 25 ranked Truman State to the end, but fell victim, 66-61, before suffering a 77-65 defeat at Quincy.
- Three of UMSL's six GLVC losses have come by five points or less.
- UMSL is 6-3 at home, compared to 2-6 on the road.
- The Tritons have only been outrebounded by five of their 17 opponents, including Saturday at Quincy which snapped an 11-game streak of not having been outrebounded.
- Two players average double figures, led by senior Arielle Jackson's 15.3 points per game. She also leads the team with 33 three-pointers and 2.7 assists per game.
- Sophomore Alex LaPorta adds 11.2 points per game and tops the GLVC in rebounds per game with 10.7, which also ranks 24th in NCAA DII. She has 10 games of double figure rebounds and has notched eight double-doubles. In GLVC-only games, she is averaging 11.5 boards per contest.
- Senior Kaitlynn Henning adds 9.7 points per game and is coming off a weekend in which she averaged 16.0 points per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Maryville is 12-5 overall, including 6-2 in the GLVC, and has won its last five outings. The Saints are an impressive 6-1 on the road with four of their last five victories coming away from home. Three players average double figures, while Maryville is averaging 76.9 points per game in league play, which is second.
UMSL – MARYVILLE MATCHING UP (GLVC games only)
- Maryville's Mary Barton averages 16.6 points per game in GLVC contests, which ranks fourth, while UMSL's Arielle Jackson averages 15.5 points per game, which is fifth.
- The Saints average 76.9 points in GLVC games, but allow 70.6, while UMSL averages 62.5 and only gives up 64.6.
- Maryville averages just 12.5 turnovers per game, while UMSL averages 17.8.
- The Saints pull average 13.50 offensive rebounds, while UMSL averages 11.88.
SERIES HISTORY
UMSL is 14-9 all-time against Maryville and has won three straight and five of the last six, including both meetings last season, an 83-64 decision at home and a 70-64 road win in the regular season finale.
