PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Concludes Regular Season at Maryville on Saturday

SETTING THE SCENE
The UMSL women's basketball team will close out the regular season on Saturday at crosstown foe Maryville. The Tritons enter the week one spot outside of the top eight of the GLVC Point Rating System, used to determine the league's postseason tournament. UMSL and Maryville are the lone schools with just one game this week, while the other 12 conference members will also play Thursday night.
 
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • UMSL snapped a five-game losing streak last Saturday with a 70-61 win over Missouri S&T at home.
  • The Tritons are 12-14 overall, including 6-11 in the GLVC.
  • UMSL is just 2-10 in road games.
  • The Tritons entered the week 0.28 behind William Jewell and 0.31 behind McKendree, who are seventh and eighth in the GLVC Point Rating System.
 
PLAYER NOTEABLES  
  • Sophomore Alex LaPorta ranks fifth on the UMSL single season rebounding charts with 254 this season, which also marks a record by a sophomore. (bettering it by 28)
  • LaPorta needs 10 rebounds to record the 500th of her career.
  • Senior Arielle Jackson ranks ninth all-time in career free-throw percentage (75.8).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Maryville is 17-9 overall, including 11-6 in the GLVC and is 8-4 at home. The Saints have already locked up their spot in the GLVC Tournament and are now playing for seeding.  
 
SERIES HISTORY
UMSL is 15-9 all-time against Maryville and has won four straight and six of the last seven, including a 61-59 win at home on January 26 in the first meeting. The Tritons trailed by 16 after the first quarter in that contest, but outscored the Saints by 10 points in the second half. Redshirt junior Laura Szorenyi scored a season-high 18 points in that win.   
 
UP NEXT
The 2019 GLVC Tournament begins next Thursday (March 7) and will run through Sunday, March 10 at the Vadalabene Center on the campus of SIUE in Edwardsville, Ill.
