Corinne Daley have been recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the sport of cross country as honorees of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. VandenBrink is one of 15 males, while Daley is one of 15 females honored, with one coming from each league institution.
The representatives were chosen by their respective coaches to have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior this season.
These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
VandenBrink was the top male finisher for UMSL in each of the two races the Tritons competed in this year. He finished 48
th in 27:49.59 in the GLVC East Divisional and was 11
th in the GLVC Championships "B" race in 28:40.22.
Daley, who also stars in the outfield for the softball team, was UMSL's second female finisher at the GLVC Championships last weekend, finishing 30
th in the "B" race in a personal best time of 27:26.59, which was nearly three and a half minutes better than her time in the GLVC East Divisional.
The duo and their fellow honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two overall James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
