SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL begins its final road swing of the regular season this week. The Tritons, who will play their next four on the road, travel to Quincy on Thursday before visiting Truman State on Saturday.

UMSL (10-11, 5-7 GLVC) is on a season-long three-game win streak and is coming off victories over Southern Indiana (72-64) and McKendree (77-53) at home last weekend.

The Tritons are 4-7 on the road, but earned a 71-60 victory at Lewis on January 25 to begin the win streak.

UMSL is tied with Southwest Baptist for ninth place in the GLVC standings and are also in ninth place in the Point Rating System, used to determine the field and seeding for the GLVC Tournament.

ABOUT QUINCY
Quincy is 7-13 overall, including 3-9 in the GLVC, but picked up a 95-75 win over Rockhurst last Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak. The Hawks are 6-9 at home.

UMSL-QUINCY SERIES
Quincy leads the all-time series, 33-24, and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tritons last year with a 77-65 win in Quincy.

ABOUT TRUMAN STATE
Truman State enters a Thursday home game against Lindenwood at 15-4 overall, including 11-1 in the GLVC. Winners of five straight and 10 of their last 11, the Bulldogs are second  in the league standings and third in the league's point rating system.

UMSL-TRUMAN SERIES
Truman State holds a 22-18 edge in the all-time series and has won six of the 11 meetings since the Bulldogs joined the GLVC. The last two meetings have been played in Kirksville an have been won by Truman State, including a 66-61 decision last season.

SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • Three of the Tritons losses have come in overtime and three have been by nine points or less.
  • During its three-game win streak, UMSL is shooting 44.3 percent and has owned a +12.7 rebounding margin.
  • Redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi averages a team-best 12.0 points per game.
  • Junior Alex LaPorta follows with 10.0 points and also leads the team with 8.9 rebounds (fifth in the GLVC) and 3.2 assists (ninth in GLVC) per game. She is the only player in the GLVC to rank in the top 10 statistically in both rebounds and assists.
  • Sophomore McKenzie Lathrom averaged 13 points per game last week. She entered the homestand averaging 1.9 points.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Alex LaPorta and sophomore Kiara Stewart each averaged a double-double last week. LaPorta netted 13 points and 14.5 rebounds per game, while Stewart averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. LaPorta has a team-high six double-doubles this season.

CHART TOPPER
Junior Alex LaPorta ranks third in program history with 685 rebounds, needing 42 more to pass Devonna Smith (726, 2011-14) for second place. Tammy Putnam (88-92) owns the career record with 1,028.  

LaPorta also ranks 10th all-time with 199 career assists.
 
UP NEXT
UMSL travels to McKendree and Southern Indiana next Thursday and Saturday, respectively, in its final regular season road games.
