The UMSL softball team opens its 2020 season this weekend with four games in Arkansas at the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational, co-hosted by Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
The Tritons will face No. 21 Tarleton in the opener on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a game against Christian Brothers. On Sunday, UMSL faces Mississippi College and Ouachita Baptist.
Fourth-year head coach
Amanda Scott returns five full-time starters from last year's team that posted a 35-19 record, which included a 20-6 GLVC mark. The Tritons won the GLVC Tournament championship and made the program's seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
While five starters return, UMSL will be young with six freshmen and eight sophomores on the roster. Senior pitcher
Andee Tiffee, a First Team All-GLVC honoree, and senior outfielder
Morgan Hill will provide the veteran leadership. Tiffee was 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA a year ago, while Hill is a three-year starter, who has a career batting average of .276 and tallied 43 hits last season.
