PREVIEW | Women's Basketball Plays Home Finales This Week

OPENING TIP NOTES
  • UMSL (9-6, 9-6 GLVC) returns to the court this week after missing its last two games due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • The Tritons will host Missouri S&T on Thursday and Maryville on Saturday in the home finales.
  • UMSL is 6-3 in the Mark Twain Building.
 
GLVC STANDINGS
  • UMSL is sixth in the GLVC Point Rating System, used to determine the league's postseason tournament, and will look to remain in the top eight to earn a spot in that field.
  • Missouri S&T is 15th in the rankings, while Marvyille is 12th.
 
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • The Tritons have been idle since playing three games in five days Jan. 26-30. They went 1-2 during that week, falling to Maryville and Rockhurst, while earning two-point victory over William Jewell. UMSL averaged just 52.3 points per game in those three contests after entering that week averaging 74.8 points per game.
  • The Tritons average a league-best 13.6 offensive rebounds per game.
  • Senior Alex LaPorta owns team-bests of 17.2 points (9th in GLVC), 8.3 rebounds (6th in GLVC) and 4.5 assists (5th in GLVC) per game. She is the only player in the GLVC to rank in the top 10 of each statistical category in the conference.
  • Junior Kiara Stewart follows with 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
  • Senior Danielle Berry leads the GLVC with a 2.9 assist-turnover ratio. She is sixth in the league in assists per game (4.2) and is also fifth with 2.3 steals per game.
 
SCOUTING MISSOURI S&T
  • The Lady Miners are 3-13 overall, which includes a 0-7 mark in road games.
  • Missouri S&T is coming off an 80-72 loss to Lindenwood last Saturday.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMSL is 25-39 all-time against Missouri S&T and has won six of the last seven meetings, including a 67-56 victory in St. Louis last year.
 
SCOUTING MARYVILLE
  • Maryville is 7-9 overall, having lost three straight.
  • The Saints visit Lindenwood on Thursday night before coming to UMSL on Saturday.
  • Maryville is 2-5 in road games.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMSL is 15-12 all-time against Maryville.
  • The Saints have won the last three meetings, including a 71-53 decision on January 26 at Maryville.
  • The Tritons shot just 32.2 percent, while Maryville connected at a 52.1 percent clip. Despite the loss, senior Kyra Hungerford scored a career-high 14 points off the bench, while senior Alex LaPorta recorded her 35th career double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
