PREVIEW | Men's Basketball Returns to the Court for Regular Season Finale

OPENING TIP NOTES
  • UMSL (12-4, 12-4 GLVC) returns to the court on Thursday, traveling to McKendree for its regular season finale.
  • The Tritons have been idle since Feb. 6 when they lost 78-66 at Drury due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • UMSL was also scheduled to travel to Southern Indiana on Saturday, but that game has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Screaming Eagles program.
  • UMSL is 6-1 on the road.
 
GLVC STANDINGS
  • UMSL is second in the GLVC Point Rating System, used to determine the league's postseason tournament.
  • The Tritons are in position to host one of four quarterfinal round games next Wednesday when the GLVC Tournament gets underway.
  • McKendree is just outside the top eight at ninth in the standings, but is only .09 from being in fifth place.
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT
  • UMSL was one of eight Midwest Region teams to be listed as "under consideration" for championship selection.
  • The Tritons are looking for their second straight NCAA postseason bid after earning a spot in the 2020 field for the first time since 1988.
  • UMSL has never had teams earn back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids.
 
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • UMSL leads the GLVC in three-point field goal percentage (.390) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.309).
  • The Tritons are also first in the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.30).
  • Junior Marty Jackson leads the squad with 12.4 points per game and is shooting 53.1 percent from the field.
  • Senior Shane Wissink adds 11.7 points per game and adds 4.0 assists per game.
  • Redshirt junior Steve Webb owns team-highs of 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
 
SCOUTING MCKENDREE
  • McKendree is 9-8 after a narrow 69-68 loss at Indianapolis on Tuesday night.
  • The Bearcats are 4-1 at home.
  • McKendree is second to the Tritons in the league in three-point field goal shooting accuracy, but averages a conference-best 11.1 per game, while UMSL makes 8.4 per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMSL is 20-8 all-time against McKendree and won both meetings last year, including a 68-65 decision in Lebanon.
