PREVIEW | Men's Basketball to Make Trip to Southwest Baptist and Drury

OPENING TIP NOTES
  • UMSL (11-2, 11-2 GLVC) is on the road for two games this week, traveling to Southwest Baptist on Thursday and to Drury on Saturday.
  • The Tritons have seven games remaining on their schedule with five of those on the road.
  • UMSL is 5-0 in road games and is the only team in the league to sport an unblemished road record.
  • UMSL is looking to get back in the win column after it suffered a 76-67 loss at home to Rockhurst in its last outing last Saturday.
  • Both the Tritons and Southwest Baptist are receiving votes in this week's NABC DII Top 25.
 
GLVC STANDINGS
  • UMSL is second in the GLVC Point Rating System, used to determine the league's postseason tournament, trailing only Truman State by 0.32 points.
  • The Tritons are ahead of third-place Southwest Baptist by .011 points, while Drury is outside the top eight in 10th place.
 
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • UMSL leads the GLVC in assist-turnover ratio (1.36) and is second in field goal percentage (48.3).
  • Junior Marty Jackson (12.8 ppg) and senior Shane Wissink (11.9 ppg) lead the team in scoring.
  • Wissink also has a team-best 33 three-pointers and is shooting 40.2 percent from long distance. He also leads the league in assist-turnover ratio (3.6).
  • Wissink moved into eighth place all-time in program history with 133 three-pointers. He also ranks eighth all-time in career assists (256) and is seventh in steals (107).
  • Redshirt junior Steve Webb leads the team with 5.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
  • Redshirt junior Marquis Collins came off the bench in the last two games and scored 12 points in each contest.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
  • The Bearcats are 11-3, including 6-1 at home.
  • They are coming off a 91-90 overtime loss at Lindenwood last Saturday.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMSL is 7-9 all-time against Southwest Baptist, which includes a 71-63 victory in the first meeting this year on Dec. 14 in St. Louis.
  • Senior Jose Grubbs scored a game-high 20 points in that win, while UMSL shot 46.9 percent and overcame 20 turnovers.
  • The Tritons also defeated the Bearcats, 84-68, in Bolivar, Mo., last year in the first GLVC meeting between the two schools.
 
SCOUTING DRURY
  • Drury is 5-8, having lost its last five, and will host Lindenwood on Thursday before welcoming the Tritons on Saturday.
  • The Panthers are 4-3 at home.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Drury leads the all-time series, 25-8.
  • UMSL has won the last three meetings, including a 78-73 decision on Jan. 12 in St. Louis.
  • The Tritons were 23-o-23 at the free-throw line in that victory and saw junior Marty Jackson score a career-high 20 points.
  • UMSL also won the last meeting in Springfield, a 72-70 verdict last year.
 
UP NEXT
UMSL will host Missouri S&T and Maryville, next Thursday and Saturday, in the regular season home finales.
