ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened its 2022-23 going 3-1 on the day against Saint Louis and Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon at the Simon Rec Center. The men defeated the Billikens 123-103 and Knights 162-61 while the women beat Bellarmine 141-69 but lost to SLU 151-75.
The men's team won eight events, with two Tritons grabbing two individual victories apiece.
Jon Osa touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:43.98) and 100 backstroke (51.33).
Conley Savage won the 200 IM (1:55.44) and 100 fly (50.77).
Austin Stevenson won the 50 free (21.04) and
David Reynolds won the 100 free (46.94).
The 200 medley relay quartet of
Ryan Conner, Stevenson, Savage and Reynolds touched first at 1:29.11 and the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Osa,
Davis Donicht, Reynolds and Aidan Clark took the spot in a time of 3:09.13.
Also placing in the top five for the men were:
Aaron Wicklund, second in the 1000 free (9:54.46) and second in the 500 free (4:48.69), Donicht, third in the 200 free (1:44.89) and fourth in the 500 free (4:50.22), Clark, second in the 100 free (47.54), fourth in the 50 free (21.87) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:00.01),
Spencer Hyatt and Elliot Labeau were second and third in the one-meter dive with scores of 123.40 and 60.55 respectively,
Ethan Boehle, fourth in 100 fly (52.31), Conner, second in the 100 back (53.77), Stevenson, third in the 100 breast (58.13) and
Sergio Santisteban in the 1000 free (10:17.93).
The 200 medley relay squad of
Dawson Norton, Clark,
Malcolm Hunter and Boehle were fifth at 1:37.50.
Zara Konstapel led the UMSL women, winning the 100 breast in a time of 1:07.23 while the 200 medley relay team of Franziska Hauptman, Konstapel, Kristen Stadler and
Kate Nelson took the top spot (1:50.24).
Also placing in the top five for the women were:
Rebecca Bechtel, fourth in the 1000 free (11:14.45), Hauptmann, fifth in the 200 free (2:01.94),
Madison Bottorff, second in the 50 free (25.10) and fourth in the 100 free (55.77),
Sarah Nelson, third in the 50 free (25.13) and second in the 100 free (55.48),
Stephanie Schoemans, second in the 200 IM (2:13.42) and fifth in the 100 back (1:02.21), Stadler and
Mackenzie Greenley were fourth and fifth in the 100 fly with times of 1:01.70 and 1:01.77 respectively.
Kate Nelson, third in 100 back (1:01.71) and fourth in 100 breast (1:10.02) and
Isabella Gruidl, third in 500 free (5:19.04).
The 400 free relay quartet of Schoemans, S. Nelson, Bottorff and Gruidl took second in a time of 3:41.51.
The Tritons return to the pool on Friday (Oct. 14) as they host Lewis in their home opener at 5 p.m. at the UMSL Swimming Pool.
