Men’s Basketball Hosts East-West University in Home Opener on Thursday

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team hosts East-West University in its home opener this Thursday (Nov. 17) at 6 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.

The Tritons (2-0) opened the season last weekend with a pair of wins in Ohio defeating No. 20 Walsh 70-53 in the season opener last Friday and then defeated Tiffin 67-54 on Saturday afternoon.

Bowen Sandquist led the Tritons in scoring last weekend averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 58.8 percent (10-for-17) from the floor. Nine of his 10 field goals came from behind the three-point line.

Victor Nwagbaraocha added 12 points per contest while Isaiah Fuller and Dylan West added 11.5 points per outing respectively. West led UMSL in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per contest while Fuller pulled down an average of 6.0 rebounds per game last weekend.

The Triton defense forced 31 turnovers in the two wins last weekend including 20 steals. Nwagbaraocha led the way with five steals while Donovan Vickers added four steals.

East-West University enters play this week with a record of an 0-8 and are playing at Purdue Northwest on Tuesday evening before traveling down to St. Louis. The Phantoms lost to Iowa Wesleyan 77-55 last Friday and Culver-Stockton 93-75 on Saturday in Culver-Stockton's Fairfield Inn Classic. Braylon Gedion led East-West with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting against the Wildcats while Jaha Jackson added 15 points, William Perry had 14 points off the bench and Tomas Teklegergis finished with 13 points.
