Chris Pilz to be Inducted into Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) announced that University of Missouri-St. Louis Hall of Fame member, Chris Pilz, is an inductee for the MBCA Hall of Fame Class of 2022. Pilz was a men's basketball student-athlete at UMSL from 1987-91 and was also the head coach for the Tritons from 2003-10. Pilz was inducted into the UMSL Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.

Pilz was a standout on the court for the Tritons. He was a second team All-American in 1991 and graduated as the winningest men's basketball player in program history (72). He was a member of both the 1987-88 and 1990-91 teams that set the then-school record of 22 wins. The 1987-88 team made the NCAA Division II Tournament and Pilz was named the South-Central Region Co-MVP.

Pilz is third all-time in scoring at UMSL with 1,673 career points. He is first in career steals (233) and second in career assists (426). The two-time all-region selection is also second in three-pointers made (168) and free-throws made (455). The three-time all-conference selection holds the record for most steals in a game with eight (1989) and most steals in a season with 86 (1990-91).

Pilz recorded 77 wins in his time at the helm for UMSL. During that time he coached Jonathan Griffin (2002-06) who scored 1,739 career points at UMSL to surpass Pilz on the all-time scoring list. Following in his coach's footsteps, Griffin's name can also be found fourth in career steals (160).

Pilz amassed an overall record of 411-360 as a head coach at the high school and collegiate levels. He has won six District titles and made two Elite 8 appearances at the high school level.

Pilz received his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from UMSL in 1991.
