INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming team had a successful first day at the IUPUI House of Champions meet on Thursday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The two teams combined for 10 top 10 finishes, five "B" standard qualifying times and four school records.
The men are fourth out of eight teams with 220.5 points while the women are eighth out of 11 teams with 158 points.
For the women, the 400-medley relay foursome of
Ella Lantz,
Zara Konstapel,
Audrey Lantz and
Kate Nelson finished fourth in a school record time of 3:45.90. E. Lantz swam the opening leg in a school record time of 55.58 seconds.
Justice Beard finished fifth in the championship final of the 500 freestyle with a school record and "B" cut time of 4:56.92.
The 200-free relay quartet of Nelson,
Madison Bottorff,
Kelsey Roth and A. Lantz came in ninth at 1:35.59 besting their season mark of 1:38.73 at Ouachita Baptist.
A. Lantz finished second in the consolation final in the 50 free with a time of 23.71 seconds which was good for "B" cut qualifying mark. Konstapel finished eighth in the consolation final of the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.94.
On the men's side,
Hendrik Bechtel won the 500 free with a school record and "B" cut qualifying time of 4:26.58.
Conley Savage,
Guillem Masjuan Roca and
Aaron Wicklund all finished in the top eight of the championship final of the 200 IM. Savage came in second with a "B" cut time of 1:49.17 while Masjuan Roca finished sixth with a "B" standard time of 1:50.45 and Wicklund was seventh at 1:51.19.
The quartet of Masjuan Roca,
David Reynolds,
Ethan Boehle and
Mason Stimson finished seventh in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:23.44 while the 400 medley relay foursome of
Ryan Conner, Bechtel, Savage and Reynolds was eighth in the event in a time of 3:22.18.
The second day of the House of Champions meet gets underway on Friday morning at 9 a.m. (CST) with preliminary races in the 50 breast, 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals for those events will begin at 5 p.m. (CST).
