ST. LOUIS – The fourth ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team earned postseason accolades on Wednesday as setter
Caitlin Bishop was named the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest Region Player of the Year and head coach
Ryan Young was selected by his peers as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
The Tritons had four players earn All-Region accolades as Bishop and
Lexie Rang were first team selections on both the D2CCA and AVCA teams while
Delaney Humm was a first team selection for the AVCA and a second team D2CCA pick.
Mya Elliott was named to the D2CCA second team.
Bishop, the GLVC's Player of the Year and First Team All-GLVC selection, is second in the country in assists per set this season with 12.28 and sixth in total assists with 1,265. She was named the GLVC's Setter of the Week eight times this season and has directed an offense that is second nationally in kills per set with 15.08 and third in attack percentage at .289.
Rang, a First Team All-GLVC selection, along with Humm has been one of the top hitters in the country this season averaging 4.17 kills per set which ranks 19th nationally and is fourth in the GLVC heading into the NCAA Tournament. She is also 10th in Division II in attacks per set (11.79) and 11th in points scored per set with 4.98. Rang is fourth in the GLVC in aces per set with 0.44.
Humm, a First Team All-GLVC selection, leads the Tritons with 4.21 kills per set which is third in the GLVC and 18th in Division II. Twice this season she was named the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week. Humm recorded a career-high 26 kills in the five-set win at Lewis on Oct. 7. She ranks 36th nationally with 413 kills this season.
Elliott, a Second Team All-GLVC selection, leads UMSL with a .373 hitting percentage which is third best in the conference and 25th in Division II. She earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season and has reached double figures in kills six times this season highlighted by a 14-kill performance against Missouri S&T on Oct. 20.
Young was named the AVCA's Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the second straight season guiding the Tritons to a 30-1 record including 13-0 in the GLVC and the number one seed in the Midwest Regional this weekend.
UMSL will take on eighth seeded Missouri S&T in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (Nov. 30) at 5 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
