Women’s Basketball Hosts Purdue Northwest in Tuesday Matinee

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team hosts Purdue Northwest in its final home game of the 2023 calendar year on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m., at the Mark Twain Building.

The Tritons (6-4) are coming off a 67-61 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan this past Saturday. Jalysa Stokes led the way for UMSL scoring a season-high 28 points while matching her career-high of 12 made field goals against the Panthers.

The Tritons outshot KWC in the contest but it was the Panthers three-point shooting in the third quarter that was the difference in the ball game. KWC hit nine field goals in that decisive third quarter with seven coming from the three-point line.

Stokes leads the GLVC in scoring this season with 19.6 points per contest while Morgan Ramthun, who has 27 rebounds in her last two games, is tied with Truman State's Ellie Weltha with 9.2 rebounds per outing.

UMSL has allowed the fewest points per game this season in the conference giving up 56.9 per contest and has held nine of its 10 opponents to less than 70 points in a game.

About Purdue Northwest – The Pride enter Tuesday's game with a record of 5-5 and are in a stretch of three games in five days. They began that stretch with a 67-58 win over Findlay on Friday evening at home to extend its win streak to two before losing to Thomas More University 72-61 on Sunday afternoon.

As a team, Purdue Northwest is averaging 60.3 points per game while giving up 63.9 points per contest. It is shooting 38.8 percent from the field including 32 percent from three and 71 percent at the charity stripe. It is being outrebounded by nearly six rebounds per contest and has turned the ball over an average of nearly 17 times per game.

Dash Shaw leads the Pride in scoring with 15.4 points per outing and has dished out a team-high 30 assists while Mercedes Simmons is contributing 13.1 points per game and leads the team with 9.1 rebounds per contest and 29 blocked shots.

Series History – Tuesday's game marks the fourth meeting all-time between UMSL and Purdue Northwest with the Tritons having won the first three contests. UMSL won last year's contest 62-59 in Hammond, Ind., behind 16 points from Stokes and 12 from Ramthun. Tuesday's contest marks the second meeting all-time between the two schools at the Mark Twain Building.
