ST. LOUIS –University of Missouri-St. Louis head men's basketball coach Bob Sundvold is being honored this weekend by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association with the Gary Filbert Lifetime Achievement award. The award, the highest honor given by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, will be presented this Saturday, April 22, at the MBCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Springfield, Mo.

"I am honored and humbled to be recognized by the MBCA with this award," Sundvold said. "It is truly special because of the coaching and personal relationship I enjoyed with Coach Filbert, and the excellence that the previous honorees have all exemplified.

"This award, like everything in basketball reflects on your team, and my team has been blessed with a supportive family, outstanding players and coaches, and excellent Universities. My thanks to everyone."

Sundvold just wrapped up his 10th season at the helm of the Triton basketball program. He has guided his teams to 182 wins, four seasons with at least 20 wins, three NCAA Tournament appearances, three appearances in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship game in the past four years, the GLVC Title in 2022, a Sweet Sixteen appearance last season, and an Elite Appearance this season. The Tritons lost to McKendree in the championship game but still received an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.

UMSL was seeded second at the NCAA Midwest Regional, its highest seed ever, in Indianapolis. The Tritons defeated seventh seeded Parkside in the first round and sixth seeded Ferris State in the semifinals setting up a rematch with the Bearcats in the regional final. UMSL avenged two earlier defeats to the Bearcats with a 62-60 victory to win its second regional championship in program history and first in over 50 years.

The Tritons season ended with a loss to eventual national champion Nova Southeastern in the first round of the Elite Eight.
