Tritons Included In First NCAA Rankings

ST. LOUIS – The season's first set of NCAA Division II Regional Rankings came out on Wednesday afternoon, with the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team listed among those receiving postseason consideration. The Tritons are one of nine Midwest Region teams on the initial list.

UMSL is seeking its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018 when it advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinal round in Surprise, Ariz., and its fourth in program history (2014, 2017 and 2018).

The top seven teams in the final rankings will earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Midwest Region is comprised of teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).

The Tritons are 11-4 on the season including 2-0 in the GLVC and have won their last five matches including a win over No. 43 UIndy last Saturday for the program's second win against the Greyhounds since 2003.

This year, the first regional rankings included teams in alphabetical order only, with actual rankings set to be included in next week's release. The NCAA will unveil its field of 48 teams on Monday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) during a selection show on NCAA.com.

The Midwest Region will hand out three automatic bids to conference tournament winners from the GLVC, GLIAC and GMAC. Four teams will earn at-large bids to the tournament.

UMSL hosts Maryville in its final home match of the regular season this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
