VOLLEYBALL
UMSL opens the 2013 campaign this weekend at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. The Tritons will face Saginaw Valley State in the opener on Friday afternoon before meeting the host Bulldogs that evening. UMSL then meets Ashland and Indiana U. of Penn. on Saturday.
The Tritons, under the direction of third-year head coach Ryan Young, are coming off a 13-18 record last season. Four starters return including senior outside hitter Chelsea Burkle, who averaged 2.27 kills and 1.79 digs per set last season. Other returning starters include junior outside/opposite side hitter Haley Brightwell, sophomore setter Lindsay Meyer and sophomore middle blocker Jessica Ploss. Brightwell averaged 1.66 kills per set, while Meyer dished out 7.62 assists per set and averaged 2.87 digs per set. Ploss paced the squad with a team-best 78 blocks, an average of 0.84 per set. The Tritons also return senior setter Anna McNulty, who recorded a team-high 40 service aces last year.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
The 2013 season gets underway on Friday as UMSL opens the schedule against Emporia State in the Embassy Suites Invitational, hosted by Lindenwood. The Tritons then play the host Lions on Sunday.
Under the direction fifth-year head coach Bobby Lessentine, the Tritons return 13 players from last year's squad, which finished 4-11-2. Among the returnees are seniors Brittany Harbaugh and Kaitlyn Smugala. Harbaugh led the team in scoring last season, netting four goals and two assists for 10 points, while Smugala started all 17 games in goal for the Tritons.
MEN'S SOCCER
UMSL will open its 46th season of intercollegiate play on Saturday in a stern test against No. 18 ranked Lindenwood in the first game of the GLVC/MIAA Challenge, hosted by Missouri S&T. The Tritons then face Southwest Baptist on Sunday.
UMSL, under the direction of 13th-year head coach Dan King, returns six starters from last year's 12-7-1 squad, which posted the program's best mark since the 1996 team finish 12-7-2. The Tritons advanced to the championship game of the GLVC Tournament, falling 2-1 to host Rockhurst.

Among the returnees are sophomores Tyler Collico and Chris Pearson, the top returning scorers from a year ago. Collico scored a team-high eight goals to finish with 18 points, while Pearson tallied four goals. Senior Matt Burrus also returns after scoring three goals and adding three assists to finish with nine points.

Other returning starters include junior back Tony Auck, who earned Third Team All-GLVC honors last season, sophomore back Clay Stocker and senior back Dane O'Keefe. Defensively, the trio helped UMSL to nine shutouts on the year.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Tritons will compete in the SLU Tournament, hosted by Saint Louis University. All matches will be played at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. Other competing schools include Lewis and SIU Edwardsville.
WOMEN'S GOLF
UMSL will hit the links for the first time, traveling to Joliet, Ill., for the Lewis Warm-Up. Under the direction of 11th-year head coach James Earle, the Tritons are seeking a fifth straight NCAA Regional bid this year. UMSL returns four golfers from last year's lineup, including sophomore Tayler Hoag, who posted a team second-best scoring average of 79.8.
