FLORENCE, ALA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team recorded a pair of victories on Saturday at the North Alabama Tournament, defeating Delta State, 9-4, before outlasting Union, 1-0, in eight innings.
The Tritons improve to 4-4 overall with the wins and close out tournament action tomorrow with games against No. 24 Alabama-Huntsville at 12 p.m. and Shorter at 2 p.m.
UMSL vs. Delta State
The Tritons registered 14 hits in the victory, including three from junior
Ashleigh King.
Sophomore
Katie Wood added two hits, both doubles, and finished with two RBIs, while senior
Alexa Harvey had two hits, including a homerun, and RBIs. Freshman
Brandi Kiel also registered a pair of hits with two RBIs.
UMSL took a 7-0 lead into the sixth inning before Delta State (4-3) got on the board with a pair of runs, which the Tritons got back in the bottom half of the frame. The Statesmen then scored twice in the seventh for the final score. UMSL scored at least one run in innings two through five.
Freshman
Hannah Perryman picked up the win in the circle, tossing six innings. She allowed four runs on three hits and struck out 11 to help overcome 11 walks.
Sophomore
Brittni Chapman pitched the final inning in relief, scattering two hits, while striking out one.
UMSL vs. Union
Wood's RBI single to shortstop in the eighth inning scored freshman
Paige Pluester for the game-winner. Pluester started the inning at second base on the international tie breaker rule.
The Tritons were held to just four hits and were struck out 16 times by Union's (5-1) Kelly Robey.
Sophomore
Brianna Butler accounted for two of those hits, while Harvey had a double.
Chapman recorded the complete game victory, giving up just three hits, while striking out three and walking two.
