Baseball Swept by Drury in Series Finale

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Visiting Drury closed out a four-game series at the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a sweep of the Tritons on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball action. The Panthers posted victories of 12-6 and 8-1 behind a combined 30 hits.
 
Drury improves to 21-9 overall, including 12-4 in the GLVC, while UMSL slips to 11-13 and 8-8 in the league.
 
The Tritons are back in action on Wednesday, hosting Pittsburg State in a non-conference twinbill scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
GAME 1 –Drury 12, UMSL 6 (seven inning game)
Drury scored seven runs, including five in the fifth, before the Tritons got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Junior Tyler Bunge singled to center field to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single from senior Taylor Holman before scoring on a senior Drew Standefer sacrifice fly. Holman later scored when senior Lucas Matecki singled through the left side to pull the Tritons within 7-2.
 
Drury plated run number eight in the sixth as a leadoff walk later turned in to a run on a single.
 
Junior Paul Richmond picked up an RBI via a walk in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Bunge, who singled to left field.
 
The Panthers then added another four runs in the seventh, while Matecki scored in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from senior Trevor Nathanson. Standefer brought two more UMSL runs across the plate with a two-run single for the final score.
 
Senior Andy Flett took the loss in four and two-thirds of an inning, allowing seven runs on 10 hits. He also walked two, while striking out three.
 
The Tritons tallied 10 hits, including two each from Nathanson and Bunge. Drury registered 14 hits.
 
GAME 2 –Drury 8, UMSL 1 (nine inning game)
The Panthers' hot bats continued into the nightcap as Drury rattled off 16 hits. The Panthers led off with a solo homerun from Colton Jones and added single runs in the second and fifth innings for a 3-0 advantage.
 
UMSL got on the board in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles from Matecki and senior Nolan Craig.
 
Drury plated two more runs in the top of the seventh, three in the eighth and one in the ninth to account for the final score.  
 
Senior Brett Wolf took the loss, allowing seven runs on 13 hits in seven and two-thirds of an inning.
 
Drury's Trevor Richards limited UMSL to just four hits in eight innings of work to record the win on the mound. Matecki accounted for two of those hits.
