ROLLA, MO. – Ignacio Romero scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes to play, helping the No. 18 ranked Lindenwood men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night, in the season opener for both teams, at the GLVC/MIAA Challenge, hosted by Missouri S&T.
Sophomore
Tyler Collico put the Tritons on the board in the 33
rd minute for the early lead. Collico took a pass from junior
John O'Brien and made a move to the inside, firing the shot into the center of the net.
UMSL took the lead into the half after owning an 8-7 edge in shots.
Lindenwood's Aris Nukic later knocked in the tying goal in the 61
st minute, putting it to the left past Tritons keeper
Jeremiah Cooper.
Cooper recorded four saves in the loss as UMSL finished the game outshooting the Lions, 20-15. Collico fired five shots, while freshman
Blake Herman took four shots.
UMSL returns to the field tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Southwest Baptist.
