ROLLA, MO. – Ignacio Romero scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes to play, helping the No. 18 ranked Lindenwood men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night, in the season opener for both teams, at the GLVC/MIAA Challenge, hosted by Missouri S&T.
 
Sophomore Tyler Collico put the Tritons on the board in the 33^rd minute for the early lead. Collico took a pass from junior John O'Brien and made a move to the inside, firing the shot into the center of the net.
 
UMSL took the lead into the half after owning an 8-7 edge in shots.
 
Lindenwood's Aris Nukic later knocked in the tying goal in the 61^st minute, putting it to the left past Tritons keeper Jeremiah Cooper.
 
Cooper recorded four saves in the loss as UMSL finished the game outshooting the Lions, 20-15. Collico fired five shots, while freshman Blake Herman took four shots.
 
UMSL returns to the field tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Southwest Baptist.
