VIDEOSETTING THE SCENEComing off a 9-1 win against Southwest Baptist last Sunday, the Tritons will open GLVC play this weekend at home, hosting Bellarmine on Friday and McKendree on Sunday. Friday's contest against the Knights will also mark the home opener.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTThe Knights enter the GLVC opener 2-1 on the 2014 season. Their only loss came in overtime to No. 19 Ohio Dominican, 3-2. Seniors Kai Qualah and Dan Schiavi, as well as sophomore Zach Digan enter GLVC competition with two goals each.
McKendree opens up GLVC play Friday night at Maryville with a record of 0-1-1, with both of their matches having gone into overtime. Senior CJ Cerna leads the Bearcats with three goals – all of which came as a hat trick in a 5-4 overtime loss to Oakland City in McKendree's last outing.
LAST YEAR AGAINST THESE OPPONENTS UMSL traveled to McKendree and Bellarmine last season, defeating the Bearcats, 1-0, while tying the Knights, 1-1, in double overtime.
SIZING UP THE TRITIONS After turning a penalty shot into the tying goal against No. 7 Lindenwood, junior
Jon Huelsman leads the Triton offense with six points on two goals and two assists, while junior
Tyler Collico has five points, also scoring two goals. Six other Tritons have scored one goal on the season.
UP NEXT The Tritons hit the road next weekend in GLVC contests at Southern Indiana (Evansville, Ind.) and Illinois Springfield (Springfield, Ill.), Friday and Sunday, respectively.
