Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. – Sophomore
DJ Bednar headed in the game-winner with 1:47 on the clock to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bellarmine on a soggy Friday night in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
Bednar was able to connect for his second goal of the season thanks to a well-delivered ball off the foot of senior
Logan Ream on a free kick about 40 yards out.
The Tritons stay unbeaten on the season, improving to 2-0-1, including 1-0 in the GLVC. It was UMSL's first GLVC-opener win since 2006 when they defeated Quincy at home, 2-0. Bellarmine slips to 2-2 and 0-1 in the league.
The Knights got on the board in the 17
th minute as Kai Qualah took advantage of an UMSL defender slipping on the wet field to take a wide open shot from the left wing for the score.

Leo Sanchez later scored the equalizer in the 39
th minute on a scramble in front of the net with the assist to junior
Andres Parada, sending both teams into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.

Jon Huelsman nearly gave UMSL the go-head tally, but his shot inside the box just 1:13 into the second half hit the post.
The Tritons recorded 11 shots, including six on goal, to Bellarmine's 10 shots, including three on goal.
Junior
Tyler Collico fired three shots, placing three on target, while senior goalkeeper
Nick Lenkman recorded two saves, playing all 90 minutes.
UMSL is back on the field on Sunday, hosting McKendree at 2:30 p.m.
