ST. LOUIS, MO. – Sophomore Leo Sanchez scored the game's lone goal as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team defeated visiting McKendree, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action to stay unbeaten on the season.

Sanchez took advantage of Bearcats goalie Scott Armistead slipping on a kick and netted the ball from 16 yards out for the tally in the 42nd minute. It was Sanchez's third straight game with a goal.

UMSL improves to 3-0-1 overall, including 2-0 in the GLVC, while McKendree slips to 1-2-1 and 1-1 in the league. The Tritons are off to their best start since 1994 when that team also began 3-0-1.

McKendree outshot the Tritons, 10-7, and edged UMSL, 3-2, in shots on goal. Three of the Bearcats' shots came in the final six minutes of play.

Senior Nick Lenkman recorded his first shutout of the season in goal, recording three saves.

Junior Michael Schlempler recorded two shots.

UMSL returns to action Friday, traveling to Southern Indiana in GLVC play.
