Men's Soccer Looks to Remain Unbeaten, Traveling to Southern Indiana and Illinois Springfield


SETTING THE SCENE
With wins over Bellarmine (2-1) and McKendree (1-0) last weekend to open the GLVC schedule, the Tritons look to keep their winning streak going on the road and remain unbeaten as UMSL travels to Southern Indiana and Illinois Springfield, on Friday and Sunday, respectively. 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Southern Indiana is 1-2-1 overall, including 0-1-1 in the GLVC after falling to Quincy (0-3) and tying Truman State (0-0) last weekend. Senior Carlos Mayser has the lone goal scored by the Screaming Eagles, while junior goalkeeper Auston Bruder has recorded two shutouts.
 
Illinois Springfield enters a Friday contest against Maryville with a 2-2 record, including a 0-2 mark in the GLVC after losses to Truman State (2-0) and Quincy (4-0) last weekend. The Prairie Stars offense is led by freshman Jack Coombes, who has two goals on the season.
 
LAST YEAR AGASINT THESE OPPNENTS
UMSL defeated Illinois Springfield, 2-0, last season and drew a 0-0 tie against Southern Indiana. Then junior Nick Lenkman posted both shutouts, recording three saves in each contest.
 
SIZING UP THE TRITIONS
Sophomore Leo Sanchez leads UMSL's offense with six points on three goals and has scored in  each of the last three outings, while junior Jon Huelsman owns six points on two goals and two assists. UMSL is outshooting their opponents, 59-44, while senior goalkeeper Nick Lenkman owns 10 saves and one shutout while protecting the goal.
 
UP NEXT
UMSL returns home to host GLVC opponents Rockhurst and William Jewell, Friday and Sunday, respectively.
