Jake Meyerkord scored the game's only game shortly into the second half to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lewis on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory, improving to 7-3-1 overall, including 6-2-1 in the GLVC, with their fifth shutout of the year. The win also equals last year's win total with six regular season games still to be played. Lewis, which had a two-game win streak snapped, slips to 3-8 and 2-7 in the GLVC.
Meyerkord netted his second goal of the season three minutes and four seconds into the second period after he beat the Flyers' goalkeeper off the dribble following a short pass. Junior
Nick Werner was credited with an assist on the play.
Lewis held a 14-9 advantage in shots, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, while both teams had three corner kicks. Junior
Pat Ries led UMSL with two shot attempts with one on goal.
Senior
Jack Filla made five saves, while playing all 90 minutes in between the posts.
UMSL returns to the field on Sunday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 p.m.
