ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis senior defenders
Evan Garrad and
Joe Rund have been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Men's Soccer First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Garrad owns a 3.98 grade point average in biochemistry/biotechnology, while Rund sports a 4.00 GPA in biology. Both players started all 18 games in the backfield, helping the Tritons to five shutouts and a 10-7-1 record.
The duo become the first Academic All-Americans in men's soccer in school history and are the first players to earn First Team Academic All-America honors since David O'Gorman (men's tennis) in 1992. UMSL now has 18 Academic All-Americans in school history.
Thirteen of the 33 members of the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division II men's soccer teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with four student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.91.
