ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's cross country team finished fourth with 120 points at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Saturday morning at the Bolivar Municipal Golf Course in Bolivar, Mo.
Benjamin VandenBrink and
Jacob Warner led the way for the Tritons finishing second and fifth respectively earning All-GLVC accolades. VandenBrink finished the eight-kilometer race in a time of 24:49.28 while Warner crossed the line at 25:05.99.
VandenBrink's finish was the highest by a Triton at a GLVC meet improving on his 13th place finish from a season ago.
UMSL's top five were completed by
Sam Savastino who came in 29th place with a time of 26:34.36,
Emmett Johnson finished 41st at 26:59.19 and
Julio Cruz Jr. was 43rd in a time of 27:01.29.
Jonny Key and
Matthias Shelp finished with times of 27:05.88 and 27:15.38 respectively.
Lewis won its third team title in the last four years finishing with 44 points and had three of the top seven runners in the 160-runner race as it finished ahead of Illinois Springfield by 11 points. The Prairie Stars Cortland Ross was the individual champion finishing with a time of 24:36.80.
UMSL's
Michael Wright was named as the team's honoree for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship award at the conclusion of the meet.
The Tritons next competition will be at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Nov. 4 in Evansville, Ind.
