ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team hosts eighth ranked Indianapolis in its home opener this Friday (Sept. 29) at 7:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons will also host the Lewis Flyers this Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Last Time Out – UMSL (2-1-2, 1-1-1 GLVC) had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-1 loss at McKendree last Sunday. The Bearcats struck first with a goal in the 34th minute as Matteo Schubert scored off a long throw in.
The Tritons got the equalizer in the 63rd minute as
Melo Mensah carried the ball deep into McKendree's end then slid a pass to his right to
Ty Gordon who scored into the lower left corner for his second goal of the season. The Bearcats scored the game-winner with less than 10 minutes to play as James Martin knocked home a rebound for his first goal of the season.
GLVC Statistical Rankings – UMSL ranks seventh in the conference in scoring with a total of 20 points registering eight goals and four assists and are averaging 1.6 goals per game. Mensah and
Luca Saewe are tied for fifth in the conference with one game-winning goal each.
Austin Reis ranks fifth in the league in saves (17), sixth in goals against average (1.00), tied for fifth in shutouts with two and is eighth in saves per game with 3.40.
About UIndy – The Greyhounds enter Friday night's contest with a record of 6-0-1, 4-0 GLVC and have won four straight. Last weekend, UIndy defeated Rockhurst 1-0 and then handed William Jewell a 3-1 defeat on Sunday. Carl Ringstrom tallied four points courtesy of two-game winning goals last weekend and was named the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week.
UIndy is averaging 2.14 goals per game this season and is only conceding 0.57 goals per contest. Michael Tselios leads the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. Owen Atkisson and Kabiru Gafar are tied for second with six points apiece.
Kieran Brown has played 623 in minutes in goal this season making 19 saves, has a goals against average of 0.58, a save percentage of 0.826 and has a pair of shutouts.
About Lewis – The Flyers bring a three-game winning streak into Friday night's match at McKendree and are unbeaten in their last five contests. Lewis has conceded only two goals this season and has six shutouts in seven contests. The Flyers defeated William Jewell 4-0 last Friday evening and then picked up a 2-0 win over Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon.
Godwin Asore leads the team in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists while Joram Bogers and Arturs Gorodnickis have five points each.
Sebastian Doppelhofer, the GLVC's Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2022, has played most of the minutes in goal this year. He leads the league in goals against average (0.31), saves (20) and is tied for first with four shutouts.
Up Next – The Tritons head back out on the road next weekend traveling to Missouri S&T (Oct. 6) for a 7:30 p.m. start and then will take on cross town rival Maryville (Oct. 8) at 2:30 p.m.
