ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team concludes its two-game homestand on Saturday hosting McKendree at 1 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
The Tritons (7-7, 5-3 GLVC) look to build momentum after snapping their four-game losing streak last Saturday with a 61-60 win over Truman State.
Jalysa Stokes finished with a game-high 27 points in that contest while
Morgan Ramthun added 10 points and seven rebounds. UMSL overcame a nine-point third quarter deficit to secure the victory.
Stokes continues to lead the Tritons and the GLVC in scoring this season at 19.1 points per game while Ramthun ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding at 8.4 per contest. Stokes is 34 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Amaya Blake is the only other Triton averaging double figures in scoring this season at 10.1 points per outing with Ramthun just outside of double figures at 9.7 points per game.
Alex Wolff leads the team with six blocked shots and
Audrey Martinez-Stewart has a team-high 36 assists and 21 steals.
About McKendree – The Bearcats (11-3, 7-1 GLVC) enter Saturday's contest having won 10 of their 11 contests. They had their nine-game winning streak snapped last Wednesday in an 84-75 home loss to Upper Iowa but bounced back last Saturday defeating Missouri S&T 84-71 in Rolla. Naomi McDaniel led three McKendree players in double figures in scoring with 16 points while Clare Breden added 15 and Baylie Parks finished with 10 points off the bench.
The Bearcats are averaging 72.3 points per game and allowing only 66.7 per contest. They rank second in the GLVC in field goal percentage having connected on 45 percent of their attempts from the field and have held opponents to just 41 percent shooting. They're also outrebounding the opposition by 2.4 rebounds per game.
Breden leads the team and is sixth in the GLVC in scoring with 17.1 points per contest while McDaniel ranks among the top 15 in the conference in rebounding and scoring. She is seventh in the league with her 8.1 rebounds per game and 13th in scoring at 14.9 points per contest. Madyson Harper is just outside of double figures in scoring at 9.5 points per outing. Breden leads McKendree with 44 assists and 20 steals while McDaniel is the team leader in blocked shots with 17.
Series History – UMSL has won 16 of the past 18 meetings in the series. The Tritons won the first meeting between the two teams last season 60-55 in Lebanon then the Bearcats returned the favor defeating UMSL 86-79 in the regular season finale snapping the Tritons seven-game win streak in the series.
