ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team looks to extend its two-match winning streak as it heads to Springfield, Mo., on Sunday to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Drury at Harrison Stadium at the Curry Sports Complex at 2:30 p.m.
The Tritons (2-1) began its season long five-game road trip with back-to-back wins at Trevecca Nazarene last Sunday and at Union on Tuesday evening. UMSL jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its 3-2 win over the Trojans as
Jon Campbell found the back of the net twice in the first half and
Luca Saewe added the game-winner early in the second half. Trevecca Nazarene scored two goals in the final 10 minutes for the final margin.
On Tuesday, the Tritons jumped out to an early lead as
Devin Livingstone scored in the second minute of play but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game 1-1 at the break.
Kevin Rios put UMSL back in front with a goal in the 61st minute.
Michael Quinn's initial shot was blocked and Rios scored off the rebound for his first collegiate goal. Union tied the game 10 minutes later scoring on a rebound off a missed penalty kick. The Tritons scored the game-winner in the 88th minute.
Gibson Hunt got free on a breakaway and was brought down in the box for a penalty kick. Campbell converted the attempt from the spot for his league leading third goal of the season.
About Drury – The Panthers enter Sunday's contest with a record of 2-0-1. They opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Oklahoma Christian then picked up back-to-back road wins defeating Northeastern State 2-1 and rallied for a 2-1 win over Newman on Thursday evening.
Drury has had six different players find the back of the net this season and it is led by Joe Loughnane and Mason Platts with one goal and two assists for four points apiece. Camden Meyer has played every minute in goal for the Panthers and has made eight saves with a goals against average of 1.33.
Up Next – The Tritons travel back down to Southwest Missouri next Friday (Sept. 20) to take on Southwest Baptist at 1:30 p.m.
