COAL VALLEY, Ill. – The No. 19 University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf team earned the top seed in Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match play after finishing first on Saturday at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.
The Tritons posted a team score of 914 (305-306-303) and finished 13 strokes ahead of UIndy (309-312-306) in the 13-team field.
UMSL will face No. 4 seed Illinois Springfield in Sunday's semifinal at 8 a.m., while the Greyhounds will face No. 3 seed Drury. The winners of the two semifinals will meet in the afternoon for the GLVC team title.
The Tritons are in match play for the third straight year.
The Tritons had three golfers finish in the top seven and six in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard as
Wilma Zanderau finished as the runner-up in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 223 (77-74-72).
Mayan Covarrubias took fifth at 229 (76-75-78) and
Hillary Currier finished seventh with a score of 231 (77-78-76). Zanderau and Covarrubias were automatically named to the All-GLVC team with their top five finishes. The rest of the All-GLVC team will be announced in May.
Emmy Wahl was tied for 13th at 236 (75-79-82),
Brooke Inchiostro, competing as an individual, finished 15th with a score of 237 (77-82-78) and
Juliette Lecomte came in 16th at 238 (83-78-77).
UIndy's Caroline Whallon was the individual medalist finishing with a score of 220 (71-76-73).
Sunday's action gets underway at 8 a.m. with both semifinal contests. The UIS-UMSL match will tee off on the first hole while the match between Drury and UIndy will tee off on hole number 10. The two semifinal winners will meet in the championship round in the afternoon.
